I am big on gadgets. Last year I had the bodybugg, but after about 4 months, it started not recording correctly, so now it just sits in a drawer. I was really disappointed that it stopped working correctly and I was even more disappointed with their tech support. So out of a sense of sanity and not wanting to mess with the aggravation of poor customer service I have kicked it to the curb and have nothing positive to say about it to anyone who asks.
I almost bought one of those Jawbone things that serves the same purpose, but thank goodness I did my research and found out that they were crap. They were such big pieces of crap that the company is refunding the total cost to people AND telling them to keep 'em. Yep... that's not a good sign.
The next one that I have researched and heard LOTS of good things about is the Nike Fuelband. It was just released this past Wednesday. I got one and since I have had it, I can attribute a 3lb weight loss since it pushes me to get to that 3000 fuel point goal. It also accurately records steps. I have tested it out MULTIPLE times and it's always within a few steps, so I am thrilled.
The band is much more visually appealing than the bodybugg, and it's accurate - I love it. Once you plug it in, it downloads the info and updates your account. Here is one of the pages. It records distance, steps, time active and times you have hit your goal. It will break it down by day, week, month, year etc. Super cool.
